About

Nolan L Melonson II is a writer whose works aside from his blog Ex Tenebris fall into the genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy. He is the author of the free-to-read short stories Who Claims the Night and The Letter.

Having an eclectic collection of interests that he draws inspiration from, Nolan writes fiction because he finds that the typical method of storytelling focuses too much on a binary moral system. What is right or wrong, good or evil is something that is set by the author when they laying the foundation of a story, and this limits the characters as well as the readers into predefined expectations that do not honestly reflect reality.

Nolan is of the mindset that the reality of any given choice, especially when it comes to conflict of any kind has to do with motivation and how to come out the other side of that conflict with mind and body intact; that people can do the right things for the wrong reasons and vice versa. He finds that this alternative take on a story allows for a multifaceted view that allows readers to judge the morality paradigm for themselves.

When Nolan is writing he is fueled by his imagination and a hot mug of blond roast coffee. He works diligently to craft stories with an underlying question or theme that most people think about, but seldom discuss out loud. The idea behind it all is to provoke thought while entertaining his readers.

Nolan L Melonson II was born and raised in Texas and currently resides there. At the age of six, he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa and has been deemed legally blind ever since. His educational background consists of a High School Diploma and a stent in college that led him to appreciate learning as well as providing him with the opportunity that brought him to understand what he plans to do with his life.

Nolan is an autodidact who in his free time enjoys audiobooks, old-time radio shows, audio dramas, video games, TV shows, movies, swimming, chess, building/working on computers, having conversations, and teaching himself new things.

“Life is a journey with a map you have to draw yourself,” says Nolan, “and this can make anyone feel like they are stumbling in the dark, so it is no surprise that people look for what provides light.” If you would like to know more about Nolan, his life, or if you are just curious about what goes on in the mind of a man whose soul shines with black light, then he invites you to check out, Ex Tenebris.
