16.5: Interlude 16: Cogitatio
This is not a philosophical question or a quote from anybody, but it might sound like something someone said or asked. It is just a thought roaming around in my mind lately.
The Thought
What is the honest impact that fear has on our lives?
My Response
Fear is and always will be a serious and palpable emotion that people deal with daily. It is humanity’s genteelly built-in decision-making paradigm, which has only two core responses, and those two dictate the rest of our choices.
Setting all phobias aside, our everyday fears tend to create intangible limits to what we do and how we think. Take this next part how you want to, but some fears must be conquered, and anyone who tells you it will be simple or easy; is wrong.
I will never say that anyone should put themselves in harm’s way to defeat what they are afraid of, but what I will say is that the effort you put into confronting whatever that fear may be is never wasted. The action alone strengthens your mind for what comes next. There are always choices to make, and fear will play a part in them. Just remember that fear is often more terrifying than what lies beyond it. Until next time, I am Nolan… Ex Tenebris.
