16: What I Believe
I think that sharing one’s beliefs is not inherently bad, but you should always consider the cause and effect to the best of your ability before doing so. That being said, I am going to do it anyway.
To believe is to accept something as true or to hold it as an opinion; you feel sure of the truth, think, or suppose that something is what it is. A belief is entirely subjective, they are a unique form of thought that varies from person to person, so why do people care so much when other beliefs do not coexist with theirs?
It all has to do with the various measurements of perspective, introspection, and information. I am not giving away the answer to some universal truth or anything like that. None of those things can be measured within a person with any true accuracy and yes, that would make what I just mentioned an untested hypothesis or a laypersons theory if I stretch the concept a bit.
A belief has nothing to do with how intelligent you think someone is or the decided-upon quality of the information you think they possess. While that statement has the potential to spark a debate that will eventually lead nowhere, I want to direct the focus on the title, and all the potential for disaster it can cause.
I think that there is a power in believing something no matter what it is, but I also think stating your beliefs can lead to scrutiny, baseline judgments, misunderstandings, and a vortex of many other things that can be possative as well as negative.
I have come to the conclusion that if one is to share their beliefs, one must be strong enough to accept whatever comes. Hopefully, the belief I have in my strength of mind and personality is enough to endure this next part.
My Beliefs
I believe that people will show you who they are:
You can say what you want about the reasons or motivations behind why someone does what they do, but their actions define them. It does not matter if those actions are public, good, private, bad, indifferent, downright evil, or saintly. Who they are will always shine through.
Yes, I think that people can change, but that process takes constant effort to break the habits that have made that person into who you have known them to be. While breaking bad habits and establishing new ones is difficult enough, there will be a period where the person who wants to change will be judged by others. For me, this is not that much of a concern because what I do to better myself only needs to be observed by me, but that judgment can affect people in different ways potentially leading them to return to their bad habits.
I believe in the power of the mind:
Now, having psychic powers would be cool and scary at the same time, but when I say power, that is not what I am talking about. The age of technology makes it hard for people to comprehend how things were before electricity was widely available.
I think people forget how capable the human brain and body truly is. Pick any of the seven wonders of the ancient world and search how it was built. You will find an extraordinary explanation if you find one at all. Motivation, ingenuity, and the willingness to learn from failure are how things get done during any point in time. Just because the cost of construction would be astronomical or the fact that the majority of people in the modern world cannot even dream of how to accomplish such an undertaking does not mean that it could never have been imagined and then built by humans. The ability to create and innovate is nothing new; otherwise, humanity would never have emerged from caves. Give the humanity credit where credit is due.
I believe in the innate differences that people possess:
It does not matter where you live or how much melanin you have, everyone has their own take on how they see the world. Genetics. culture, upbringing, ethics, social demands, religion, and, personal creeds all contribute to how we perceive and interact with the world, and this is the natural way of things.
Diversity contributes to a wealth of thought, expression, ideas, innovations, and competitions that have led to and continues to benefit humanity. No, this belief is not perfect, it has flaws, but to imagine a world where everyone is the same is a stagnant nightmare where there would be nothing to learn muchless acomplish. Diversity creates the examples that we chouse to aspire to.
To Conclude
Naturally, this is not a complete list of my beliefs. If you want to pick apart anything in this post, have at it. You can call it ego, but I believe that the strength of one’s character will always endure another’s opinion. Until next time, I am Nolan… Ex Tenebris.
